Complex and unreliable authentication for Codex across IDEs and connectors
Merchants are struggling with fragmented and broken authentication flows when using Codex in VS Code, Xcode, and various third-party connectors. There is significant confusion regarding whether API keys or ChatGPT subscriptions are being used, and many users experience persistent sign-in failures or account desyncs.

My biggest frustration is not the quality of the AI—it is the user experience around authentication and account status.
Xcode Codex fails when using “Sign in with ChatGPT”. Xcode displays “Requires Eligible Account or API Key”.
I sign in successfully. The browser shows: “Signed in to Codex. You may now close this page.” I close the browser window and return to Xcode. Xcode still shows “Not signed in” .
Codex code review fails on every @codex review with: “To use Codex here, create a Codex account and connect to github” — even though the GitHub connection shows as connected.
Error 401: chatgpt authentication required; api key auth is not supported.
disconnecting and reconnecting does not seem to trigger a clean OAuth login. It appears to keep reusing the old Slack login/workspace.
