File path and drawing accessibility issues in AutoCAD

when I try to open a file it tells me "Cannot find the specified drawing file"
the Search Path locations for the Options --> Files various paths have changed, aren't present, and so on.
I lost my custom file & support paths. This happened when I lost my connection to the server, so autocad deleted the paths it could not find.
the autocad browser won't let me see anything other than folders, which of course is absolutely no use.
The lost productivity costs are both massive and annoying. I have people that are literally just sitting there manually printing 100s of documents every day.
