Difficulty accessing and using current user identity in variables and API

Is there any possibility letting a variable return the name of the user (grafana), who is currently logged in?
Is there any way to use details for the “current grafana user” in a query against an influxdb back end, whether their email address or username?
I have been trying to use the __user.email variable with no luck.
