Tool selection instability and performance issues

the moment i click tool select i'm waiting for 10 seconds for it to load...
Selecting the tools with the selector cursor often misses the selection and you have to go back and click the tool again.
When using the select tool to highlight an imported sketchup plan of a kitchen and reduce its size on the page, I loose the image.
