Why oh why is it such a struggle to import downloaded models (families) into Revit?

I'm trying to load families, specifically a door and cannot figure out how to do this.

every time I try it says that No Door Family has been installed.

When I place it in the model on a Basic Wall 10" (or other thickness) it embeds it into the wall, rather than placing it on the surface.
