The story

The pain

We're seeing features we relied on, like code review and GitHub Spark, get moved to higher tiers or stripped away entirely when we change plans. The core subscription feels like it's quietly shrinking while the price holds or goes up, making it a terrible deal for solo developers and small teams. Many of us are now actively looking for alternatives or planning to leave the platform.

Over the past year it feels like GitHub has been slowly moving features that used to be included in Copilot into separate paid tiers. Code review was bundled in, then it wasn't after June 1st. Extensions keep getting added but the baseline value of the core subscription feels like it's quietly shrinking while the price holds or goes up.

Currently they aren't offering any extra Github Copilot usage for students. This is the message i got, notice that the Copilot plan sign-ups are temporarily paused:

Not possible atm Also, are you aware that the usage limits changed significantly since the beginning of the month and that it's now a terrible deal?

After removing Enterprise, I couldn't switch to Business because of the new billing/licensing changes taking effect June 1st. In the meantime, I also lost access to Copilot code review — which is one of the main features we rely on.

Done and dusted. Thanks MiracleSoft for spoiling me for over a year. It was a pleasure working with your products. I jumped on the 'AI is for everyone' train just because of your plans. Can't say I wasn't a happy customer while the fun ride lasted.

I am on the GitHub Copilot Student Plan and was thinking of trying out the latest released GitHub Copilot App. But after signing in it says it requires a paid subscription. So is it not available for Student Plan? Is it only available on the actual Paid Plans? :(

Definitely. Apparently Gitlab makes it pretty easy to transfer everything over, I might just do that. I hate that I'll have to re-configure all my deployments to the new remotes / keys / etc, and the practical side of me is saying "really, over $70?" but I've really had enough.

Been using copilot quite a bit for side-projects because I don't have that much free-time anymore with family, work etc. I knew changes were coming and a lot of people complained, but hadn't actually read much about what was going to change. This seals the deal, lol. I guess there's nothing to do except finding another service?

I spent days building an app in GitHub Spark — basically finished, about to publish. I was on Copilot Pro+ , then upgraded to Max ($100/mo) expecting more . Instead I lost Spark entirely and can't even open my own app now.
