Risk of double refunds due to pending refund delays
Merchants are concerned that Shopify's pending refund status leaves them vulnerable to double losses. If a customer initiates a chargeback while a refund is still pending, the merchant may lose the funds twice.

Shopify is leaving merchants very open to a chargeback being processed while a refund is “pending”
if the chargeback processes before Shopify decides to process the refund we made, we will have a “double” refund causing us a lot of grief
