Shopify merchants can't see where their fees and costs are going

Would love to know why you got downloaded. I just found this post after I made one of my own being confused as hell as to where my money was going. I had to get ai to help and even it was confused at first. Im used to etsy being very clear and consie in one page where my money was going.

I’ve spent roughly the last year building a reconciliation app around exactly this problem, and the biggest thing I’ve learned is that these costs are there, they’re just incredibly difficult to surface cleanly. There isn’t usually one obvious “hidden fee.” It’s more that the true cost is spread across multiple variables; your Shopify plan, negotiated payment rates, payment method, FX timing, the exchange rate actually applied, settlement currency, refunds, and other transaction level details. The hard part is capturing the full picture from different data sources and then working out what you were actually charged vs what you expected to be charged. So the data is there, the challenge is bringing all of it together accurately enough to see the true cost of each transaction.
